Preparing For Winter

posted on

Well, it's almost that time again...winter will be here before you know it. I decided to put together some simple tips that you can do to make sure your vehicle is all ready for winter.

1. Set Your Tire Pressures

            - we offer free tire pressure checks at both our stores. Stop by either one and we will set your tire pressures to the proper specification (even if they aren't Bridgestone or Firestone).  For every 10 degree fluctuation in temperature tire pressures changes by 1 PSI. The pressure that is recommended by your vehicles manufacturer will be on a placard in the drivers front door jam. Always make sure you follow these pressure guidelines when filling up your tires with air.

2. Top Up Washer Fluid

            - Almost every service location now-a-days sells washer fluid. As we approach the cold weather, make sure you are putting in washer fluid that is made to function properly at    lower temperatures ( these cold weather specifications will be labelled on the bottles). If you aren't comfortable topping up this fluid yourself, you are more than welcome to stop by     and we will fill your tank up with your own fluid, or ours at a very reasonable cost.

3. Check Your Lights

            - When was the last time you turned your lights on in your car and did a walk around to make sure they were all functioning properly? Many of us rely on that blinker in the car to start blinking fast until we realize we have a light out. Some newer cars have digital systems that will notify the driver of a headlight or taillight out, but it is always a good idea to periodically check them yourself. These systems are great but they sometimes won't tell you if a marker or fog light is out.

4. Check Wiper Blades

            - Don't wait until your on the 401, van full of people somewhere between Tilbury and Chatham to realize, "I need new wiper blades". Heading into winter it is good to put beam blades on. These type of wiper blades enclose the hinges in the blade, preventing them from filling up with ice/snow. If you are in the market for some new blades stop in to either store, we currently have a 25% off coupon for Trico Tech wiper blades. Head on over to our coupons page and score some great deals on new blades.

These are just a few simple tips you can do by yourself to make sure your vehicle is ready for old man winter. On top of these tips, we recommend a regular service plan with your repair garage. Our recommendation is bringing your vehicle in every 3 months of 5000km for an oil change service. During this oil change our service technicians will check all these things and more.
